WHAT’S INSIDE
We hope you had a bit of a break this Summer to recharge your batteries! Here we are, in the lingering heat of August, preparing this newsletter for you and mentally preparing ourselves or the intense Autumn ahead. Here’s what you’ll find inside:
● Avantex comes early this year, here’s the event schedule.
● What motivates you to keep an item of clothing? Tell your story on the Wardrobe Barometer!
● AI Act, 3D printed clothing and more.
OUR PROJECTS
AVANTEX
The annual appointment in Paris at Avantex - the innovation section of Texworld apparel sourcing - is back this year from August 31 to September 2, 2026. As usual, the TCBL network is present with members and projects, and is part of the official conference program.
• For the duration of the event, find our large “village of solutions” in the Avantex area
• On September 2, join us for the Threading Circularity Forum in collaboration with the Circular Fashion Federation of France. Find all the info and how to join us for free here.
CIRCUFASH
Wardrobe barometer
The Wardrobe Stories Barometer is a living map to help uncover the hidden lives of garments — the memories they hold, the journeys they have travelled, the care they have received, and the futures they may still have. Are you a concerned citizen? Tell us about an item of clothing that has a history or story for you. Are you a sewist or craftsperson? We want to know what skills you have and how you acquired them. Do you run an SME or a microfactory? Tell us where you’re located and what you do! Contribute your story here.
ALADIN
Would you wear this? ALADIN is creating a connected microfactory network, and will develop five use-cases to demonstrate the viability of microfactories combined with certain innovative technologies - some known, some currently under development. A parka that grows with your child, corporate work wear that changes with the seasons… We’re interested in your opinion of these product concepts - as a final consumer, or as a designer or producer.
TECHSTYLE
In the Techstyle project, we have completed the survey of how respondents in the T&C sector use AI as a basis to structure a curriculum on AI for Regenerative and Circular Fashion. 203 questionnaires and 30 interviews in six countries helped us understand that despite 47% of respondents using AI daily, only 32% had a basic understanding of its sectoral applications, compared to 13% who already led AI-driven operations, and there was still room for formal AI learning for 86% of participants, who also agreed that AI skills are vital for career and business growth. Find out more in the project newsletter.
FABRIX
The FABRIX project’s final event, titled Urban Fashion Networks: systemic design and practise, will be held in Rotterdam on October 7, 2026. Hosted at De HER in Rotterdam, a pioneering circular center and upcycling hub, this one-day conference brings together urban planners, systemic designers, policymakers, academic researchers, circular entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Through keynote presentations, methodology deep-dives, live digital tool demonstrations, and interactive roundtables, the event explores how local networks can drive systemic change across European cities. Find the schedule and sign up to attend in person or in streaming.
BECIRCULAR
TCBL Association is proud to be a partner in BE CIRCULAR – Local circular economy practices starting from textile waste, an interregional project led by the Sartoria Sociale of the social cooperative Al Revés (Palermo) and supported by Fondazione CON IL SUD through its call for the circular economy in Southern Italy. TCBL’s role is to bridge this local initiative to a wider European network. Read more.
TCBL MEMBER NEWS

Both TCBL Association and Cedecs-TCBL were invited by the EU commission team behind the EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform to contribute actively through a pledge towards the transition. The TCBL Association pledges to lead a network in developing and implementing alternative transition pathways — circular, bio-based, local and socially sustainable — for Europe's textile and clothing sector by 2030. What can YOU do to help make it happen? Read the pledges here.

WHAT WE ARE READING
- Cedecs-TCBL joined the final day of METAMORPHOSIS – Dialogues About Change, the talk series Fashion Council Germany ran with Vogue Business and eBay.de during Berlin Fashion Week. Our Elvys Sandu reports.
- The European Commission has begun enforcing AI Act rules (summarized here) on August 1 2026. You’ve probably seen the pyramidal graphic circulating on social media of how the Act assigns applications of AI to three risk categories. Applications and systems that create an unacceptable risk, such as government-run social scoring of the type used in China, are banned, while transparency regarding AI-generated content becomes obligatory (here’s how to do so). What do you think? Is the Act enough or just a good step?
- We’ve been tracking 3D-printed fashion designer Danit Peleg on Instagram for a while and were happy to watch this talk that presents her journey - and highlights her commitment to open sharing of knowledge - at Figma’s Config conference.
- A light read from The Guardian takes up the question of “multi-way” clothing - if it’s really sustainable or just a gimmick… spoiler alert, it’s no more than marketing.
