Project reference number: 610373-EPP-1-2019-1-ES-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

The CEDECS team visited the Institute of Textile Research and Industrial Cooperation of Terrassa (INTEXTER) in Spain on January 16 and 17, 2020 to attend the launch of the new Erasmus   WINTEX project which officially started on January 15 2020 and ending in 2023.

The full title of this project is Weaving innovation among academia and industry in the Tunisian textile sector - WINTEX, which could translate into Weaving innovation between Tunisian academics and industrialists.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is in charge of the project. Two other European universities (TUIASI-RO and UNIWA-GR) participating in the project, they are joined by an Italian center (CIAPI) and two non-profit companies (CreThiDev-GR and AEI Textil-SP) to carry out this project. .

This project aims to create three textile innovation centers within three Tunisian partner universities of the project: the University of Sfax, the University of Monastir and the Higher Institute of Technological Studies of Ksar Hellal-ISET.

WINTEX through the implementation of the three centers will seek to strengthen the fundamental relations between the Institutes of Higher Education (IES) and the companies to create a sustainable environment factor of innovation. The mission of these three centers will be to transfer R&D and innovation solutions to the Tunisian textile and clothing industry and potentially to new start-ups in this sector.

To this end, the consortium dealing with WINTEX will put in place a set of good practices to be implemented in Tunisia at the level of the textile and clothing industry. In addition, projects in which similar centers have been created will be listed by the consortium in order to find a way to optimize the implementation of these three centers according to the strengths and weaknesses of the Tunisian textile sector.

By taking part in this project, CEDECS aims to extend the ecosystem of TCBL to new Labs in North Africa and will also seek to test the possible valuations of the results and outputs of the TCBL project as well as other projects such as PASSAGE (previously led by CEDECS and in partnership with IFTH) in Tunisia.

Under WINTEX, the creation of a Council of the Academy and the Textile Industry in Tunisia will be carried out. This Council will seek to promote best practices within the textile and clothing industry, which includes strategies for the development of the textile industry in line with Tunisian national and regional development plans.
